In the ongoing county championship in England, Lancashire’s Matt Parkinson recreated the iconic Shane Warne’s ‘Ball Of The Century’ delivery at the same venue. In 1993, Warne in his first Ashes test match produced one of the all-time greater deliveries which bowled England batsman Mike Gatting. Former Australia spinner produced magic as his delivery pitched outside leg stump and after pitching turned a mile and hit the top of off stump.
The delivery completely bamboozled Gatting as he had no clue how Warne’s delivery ended up hitting his off stump. The delivery since then has been known as the ‘ball of the century’ as several leg spinners fantasise about creating the same delivery. When Warne for the first time was asked about his ripping leg-spin delivery that got rid of Gatting he tagged it as a fluke.
“The ball of the century was a fluke. It really was. I never did it again in the first ball of any time. So it really was a fluke and I think it was meant to be.
As a leg-spinner, you always try to bowl a perfect leg-break every ball and I managed to do it first up which was pretty, like I said was a fluke really”, Warne had said.

Meanwhile, Matt Parkinson left everyone in awe when he replicated the same delivery in the 2021 county championship. Much like Warne’s ball of the century it too spun big time after pitching outside leg stump and ended up making a mess of the off stump.
The ball came perfectly out of Parkinson’s hand and the batsman Adam Rossington could do nothing about it. Parkinson was delighted as he knew he had produced a miraculous delivery which would make even Warne very proud.
