Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was excluded from BCCI’s A+ category list in the newly released BCCI contracts for 2020-21 season.  Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah were the only three players considered for the A+ category. While, the A category had the likes of Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Test specialists Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane amongst others. Meanwhile, as per reports in Cricbuzz, Jadeja’s lack of international cricket in the last five to six months has worked against him in not getting the top category.

There are four grades – A+, A, B, and C with an annual salary of 7 crores, 5 crores, 3 crores, and 1 crore respectively. Reports in Cricbuzz further say that he was initially considered for the A+ category but then left out. Further reports said that Jadeja’s name was debated for the Elite status but the BCCI stuck only to three players – Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah.

Ravindra Jadeja’s Exclusion Explained

Those who made the final category could not give a logical reason behind Ravindra Jadeja’s exclusion from the list. However, his lack of international cricket in the last six months could be the single reason. He injured his left thumb against Australia which then ruled him out for the home series against England.

Michael Vaughan and MSK Prasad reacted to Jadeja’s omission from the category list. Vaughan said that Jadeja’s exclusion was a disgrace, while Prasad said that he is too good a player not to be getting the top contract.

“Jadeja is a genuine A+ candidate. Those who play all formats and have good ICC rankings are included in the list. I cannot see any reason why he was not considered for A + Grade. I can see Pant in A+ soon. He is not regular now but it will be difficult to ignore him for the grade. Both Jadeja and Pant could be at the top bracket soon” Prasad told Cricbuzz.
