Former England skipper Michael Vaughan took a cheeky dig at Wasim Jaffer after England secured a 1-0 lead in the Test series by winning the opener at Headingley, Leeds. Known for his playful presence on X (formerly Twitter), Vaughan tagged the ex-India opener in a post, jokingly expressing concern for Jaffer after India’s heavy defeat.
Heading into Day 5, England needed 350 more runs for victory, having ended Day 4 at 21/0 in six overs. Openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley tackled the testing conditions with composure, guiding the team to 117/0 by lunch without losing a wicket. Though Crawley missed out on a century, his 65 played a crucial part in a 188-run stand with Duckett.
Duckett stole the spotlight with a superb 149 off just 170 balls. Supporting knocks from Ben Stokes (33), Joe Root (53*), and Jamie Smith (44*) helped maintain momentum. Smith sealed the win in style, lofting Ravindra Jadeja for a six to wrap up the chase. Taking a dig at Wasim Jaffer, the 2005 Ashes-winning skipper posted on X:
“Evening @WasimJaffer14…Hope you are ok .. #1-0.”

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has faced the most criticism after putting down at least three catches during the match. One of the key misses came on Day 5 when he dropped Ben Duckett on 97. Despite registering a century in the first innings, Jaiswal’s fielding is expected to draw attention from the team management before the next match.
India and England are set to meet again in the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham, starting July 2.
