Former England skipper Michael Vaughan took a playful shot at former India opener Wasim Jaffer on Day 3 (Monday, November 24) of the ongoing Guwahati Test between India and South Africa. His joke came shortly after the Rishabh Pant-led team was bowled out for 201 in reply to South Africa’s first-innings total of 489.
Michael Vaughan teased Jaffer about how he was coping with India’s batting collapse, humorously noting that handling left-arm pace isn’t easy, a nod to Marco Jansen’s brilliant six-wicket spell. The ex-cricketer turned commentator posted on X:
“Hi @WasimJaffer14.. Hows today going .. ? Left arm seamers are not easy to face ..”

Vaughan’s post was essentially a comeback to Jaffer’s playful jab on social media following England’s eight-wicket defeat to Australia in the opening match of the Ashes 2025–26 in Perth. Interestingly, that game too was dominated by a left-arm fast bowler. Mitchell Starc claimed a remarkable 10 wickets across both innings and was named Player of the Match. After England’s loss, Jaffer had written on X:

Travis Head’s blistering 123 off 83 deliveries powered Australia to a smooth and effortless chase of the 205-run target.
South Africa Gain Huge 288-Run Lead As India Fold For 201
South Africa, after choosing to bat first, posted a strong first-innings score of 489. Senuran Muthusamy struck 109 off 206 balls, while Marco Jansen added an attacking 93 from 91 deliveries. The visitors tightened their grip on the match by dismissing India for 201, securing a dominant 288-run lead.
For the hosts, Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored with 58 off 97, and Washington Sundar contributed 48 off 92. Jansen starred with the ball, taking six wickets, while Simon Harmer chipped in with three. Despite the sizeable advantage, South Africa opted against enforcing the follow-on and decided to bat again.
India face a must-win situation, having already lost the first Test in Kolkata by 30 runs after failing to chase 124.
