Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will feature in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 exclusively as a batter for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Reports suggest that the 33-year-old will refrain from bowling due to a lingering lower-back issue.
Marsh is set to travel to India next week to participate in the league, which begins on March 22. His injury, which ruled him out of the Champions Trophy 2025, has been a recurring problem since mid-2024, particularly during Australia’s limited-overs tour of England. Despite consulting a specialist in February and undergoing a period of rest, he remains unfit for bowling.
Injury Concerns and Recent Performance
Marsh has struggled with injuries over the past year, impacting both his white-ball and red-ball cricket. He last played in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25, where he failed to score in his only match. His form in Test cricket was also concerning, as he underperformed in the first four matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, leading to his exclusion from the fifth Test in Sydney. With his inability to contribute as a bowler, his Test future remains uncertain.
LSG’s Expectations and Season Opener
After being released by Delhi Capitals (DC) following an underwhelming IPL 2024, Marsh found a new home at LSG, signing for ₹3.40 crore. The franchise, which fell short of the playoffs last season, hopes his batting prowess will bolster their lineup.
Justin Langer, Marsh’s former coach with Australia, will guide the team, adding an extra layer of familiarity. Rishabh Pant will lead LSG this season, with the team beginning its campaign against DC on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
Despite his ongoing injury concerns, Mitchell Marsh remains a valuable asset for LSG in IPL 2025, thanks to his aggressive batting style and experience.
