‘If You Need To Score More Than 350, Then You Need Rohit Sharma’ – Aakash Chopra

Former India opener Aakash Chopra stated that for India to chase a score in excess of 350, they need the likes of Rohit Sharma in their side. This statement came after India successive ODI defeats against Australia after they failed to chase down a target in excess of 370 twice in successive games.

Australian batsman dominated the Indian bowlers in both the ODIs which has now resulted in India losing the ODI series after winning it on their last tour to Australia. Steve Smith‘s back to back hundreds and overall dominance by the Australian bowlers left India with no stone to turn in this series.

‘If you need to score more than 350, then you need Rohit Sharma’ – Aakash Chopra

Aakash on his own show Cricket Aakash said that India would’ve approached the game in a different manner had Rohit Sharma been in the side. He said if India wants to chase anything in excess of 350 then they surely need their Limited over deputy skipper Rohit Sharma in the side.

“The Indian batting lineup left a lot to be desired in a sense that there were too many runs on the board. If Rohit Sharma had been there, we would have played in a bolder fashion but if he is not there, then there is a loss. If you need to score more than 350, then you need Rohit Sharma, especially in a run chase,” Aakash Chopra added.

Aakash Chopra opined that if a team wants to chase anything in excess of 350 then you need two of the top 3 batsmen to fire early on in the innings. A favourable result can only be achieved if one of the top three scores a century and the other scores a quickfire 70-80 then only there can be of winning the match.

“Such a thing is definitely not going to happen. Two of the top three need to fire and firing means that one of them scores almost a century or more than that and the other scores a quickfire 70-80. If either of them does not happen, then you cannot win the match,” Aakash Chopra concluded.
