MS Dhoni is unarguably one of the greatest cricketers India has ever produced. The former India captain in his 15-year long career earned the respect of all his teammates and opponents. Even after being from a small town, he dared to believe and became an inspiration for every budding cricketer.

KL Rahul is no different as he also idolised Dhoni when he was growing up and considered him as his hero. Rahul admitted that the news of Dhoni’s retirement was very emotional as he always wanted to become like him from a very young age. He also pointed out that he always gave an example of Dhoni to his family who also related to a small town and achieved his dreams.

MS Dhoni was a hero – KL Rahul

“It was quite an emotional moment for the whole country and world cricket. We have all grown up wanting to be MS Dhoni. Especially for someone like me who comes from a small town, he was our hero. We always told our families to look it doesn’t matter where you come from, you can always go and try and achieve your dreams,” Rahul said in a video released by the Indian Premier League on their Twitter.

“I am sure I won’t have enough words to tell him. I will just give him a long hug and say thank you and probably ask him to go easy on Kings XI this time,” Rahul further added.
