MS Dhoni who is known as the epitome of coolness has stated that even he feels the pressure. The former India captain himself isn’t immune from the burden of expectations. The former India skipper who is known as the best finisher also senses pressure and fear in the middle.

Dhoni recently spoke to the coaches of MFORE, which is an initiative offering mind conditioning programs. The organisation helps in achieving peak performance in sports. Dhoni lent support to the initiative and offered his perspectives on the issues of mental health.

Mental health plays a vital role in the performances of athletes in every sport. MS Dhoni who has played for so many years at the highest level believes that India still has a big issue of accepting weakness of mental aspects. The legendary player said that unfortunately mental weakness in India is still termed as mental Illness.

Dhoni was quoted as saying in the press release of MFORE, “In India, I still feel there is still a big issue of accepting that there is some weakness when it comes to mental aspects, but we generally term it as mental illness”.

Dhoni reveals that many people don’t talk about the mental aspects of India. Players themselves hesitate to open up about this in front of their coaches. He suggested that all this can only improve once a mental conditioning coach stays with the team and shared his own experiences.

“This is a small problem, but we hesitate to say it to a coach, and that is why the relationship between a player and coach is very important, be it any sport. Nobody says that when I go to bat, the first 5-10 deliveries my heart rate is elevated, and I feel the pressure. I feel a bit scared, but that’s how everybody feels, but how to cope with that?”.

“ If the mental coach is constantly with the player, he can understand what are the areas that are affecting his sport. I think mental health and mental clarity is the most important factor in life, not just in sports”. Dhoni concluded
