MS Dhoni To Bid Farewell To Cricket In 2020 – Reports

With the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) postponed until April 15 amid the outbreak of COVID-19, the return of the former India skipper MS Dhoni has been delayed. But reports suggest that the legendary cricketer has decided to hang his boots and will reveal to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the right time.

Meanwhile, Dhoni went on a sabbatical after India’s ouster from the ICC World Cup 2019 losing to New Zealand in the semifinals. While the entire country has been debating about his return and subsequent retirement, MS Dhoni has remained mum and has enjoyed the holiday taking part in various activities.

However, he returned to training in the first week of March, to gear up for the 13th edition of IPL. He was joined by the likes of Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla, and Murali Vijay at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, where thousands turned out to see their favourite star train.

But MS Dhoni had to return after Chennai Super Kings called off their training due to the rise in COVID-19. And with no signs of improvements, BCCI is pondering to cancel the cash-rich league. If that happens, the 38-year-old cricketer from Jharkhand will find it difficult to prove his mettle and comeback in the India squad. And if a report in Sportskeeda is to be believed, the veteran has made up his mind to retire from the game.

“Officially, he [MS Dhoni] is yet to have a word with the BCCI officials, but he has revealed his mind to his close friends. When time comes, he will reveal it all. Otherwise [without IPL 2020], he would have announced his retirement a long time ago,” the source was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has had a great run with India and will go down as one of the illustrious players in history. He is also the only skipper in the world to win three ICC titles and is one of the best finishers the game has witnessed.
