Mumbai Indians bought another major franchise for the inaugural edition of the Major Cricket League tournament to be played in the United States of America.
“The team will participate in the inaugural edition of Major League Cricket (MLC) subject to completion of customary due diligence; negotiation, and execution of definitive binding agreements, and receipt of required corporate, regulatory, and third-party approvals and compliances,” MI said in a release.
The inaugural season of the Major Cricket League will start in the summer of 2023. Mrs. Nita. M. Ambani said, “I am thrilled to welcome our New York franchise to the growing MI Family! With our entry into the first cricket league in the US, I hope we can establish Mumbai Indians as a global brand of fearless and entertaining cricket! This is another new beginning for MI, and I look forward to the exciting journey ahead.”

Mumbai Indians team in franchise cricket
Mumbai Indians bought a team in the Indian Premier League since its inception in 2008. They bought Mumbai Indian Cape Town during the inaugural season of SA T20 started in 2023.
After that, MI bought Mumbai Indians Emirates in International League T20 tournament in UAE in 2023. Mumbai Indians then purchased a team in the ongoing Women’s Premier League tournament.
Mumbai Indians are currently at the number 1 spot in the Women’s Premier League tournament with 5 wins and 1 loss against UP Warriorz.
Mumbai Indians have shown tremendous success in the Indian Premier League. They won the tournament 5 times in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. For the last 2 years, Mumbai Indians franchise has been finishing 5th in the 2021 edition and then finishing last in the 2022 edition.
Mumbai Indians New York purchased Steven Taylor, Hammad Azam, Ehsan Adil, Nosthush Henjige, Monank Patel, Sarbjeet Ladda, Shayan Jahangir, Usman Rafiq, Saideep Ganesh in the player draft.
The other teams in Major Cricket League include Seattle Orcas, Team Texas, Washington Freedom, and San Francisco Unicorns.
