Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav after their brilliant performances for Mumbai Indians in the IPL received their maiden India call-up for the T20I series against England. Both Ishan and Suryakumar played an integral part in helping Mumbai Indians lift their 5th IPL title in IPL 2020. Now the two T20 specialist batsmen are living their dreams and representing team India in international cricket.

Yesterday in his debut match for India, Ishan Kishan made a statement and smashed a match-winning half-century. The fearless batsman from Jharkhand looked like he belongs on the big stage as he dominated the England bowling attack. Suryakumar Yadav also made his debut in the same match but couldn’t get an opportunity to bat in the run chase. The talented batsman is expected to get batting opportunities in the 3 remaining matches of the series against England.

Mumbai Indians unlikely to retain Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav

Now the big question after their debut arises is can Mumbai Indians retain him ahead of the IPL mega auction which will take place before IPL 2022. The answer to this is that it is highly improbable that MI will retain both Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar for IPL 2022. The retention rule pronounces that an IPL franchise can retain only three players but RTM (right to match card) can be used for holding only one overseas and one uncapped player during the IPL auction.

The 5-time IPL champions will certainly retain skipper Rohit Sharma, star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and the destructive Hardik Pandya. This means that the franchise will have to let go of both Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan which will certainly be a huge blow for the franchise. It will be interesting to see if Mumbai Indians decides to make a huge bid for both players and acquire them in the IPL mega-auction.

Furthermore, it is speculated that the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) will introduce two new IPL teams for IPL 2022.
