“My Pleasure That God Himself Has Tweeted About Me” – Shardul Thakur On Sachin Tendulkar’s Praise

Team India all-rounder Shardul Thakur made headlines with his stunning spell in Johannesburg. He received a lot of praises from the cricketing fraternity, including the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar.

Thakur claimed his career-best figures of 7 for 61 on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test against South Africa on Tuesday as well. And, on the back of his stunning show, the Proteas were bowled out for 229 in response to India’s first-innings total of 202 as well.

Tendulkar lauded the 30-year-old’s bowling performance. Taking to Twitter, Tendulkar wrote: “Congratulations to @imShard on picking up 7 wickets with his steady bowling and variations. Good support by the others.”

While reacting to the praise he received from the batting legend, Shardul Thakur said to the bowling coach Paras Mhambrey during an interaction on bcci.tv:

“It’s my pleasure that the God himself has tweeted about me. Being a Mumbaikar, I have played a few games with him. He has always supported me as a youngster and it’s always good to hear from him, it is a morale booster.”

Shardul Thakur’s 7 for 61 spells is also the best figure by an Indian bowler in a Test against South Africa as well. Ravichandran Ashwin’s 7/66 in Nagpur in 2015 was the earlier best as well.

“I am sure it started against England in the home series” – Shardul Thakur on nickname ‘Lord’

During the discussion, he has also revealed the reason behind his nickname, “Lord”. He also admitted that he does not exactly know from where it came as well.

“Seriously don’t know who started naming me Lord. I am sure it started against England in the home series after we returned from Australia just before the IPL. That was a series where I mostly got two consecutive wickets in an over. From there the name arrived,” Shardul Thakur concluded.
