Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the standout performer with his bowling performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday, April 8.
Opting to field first after winning the toss at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, CSK put KKR under pressure. Despite KKR’s lineup of strong hitters, they found it difficult to score on the slow pitch, with Jadeja’s effective bowling adding to their challenge.
The left-arm spinner conceded only 18 runs from his four overs and took three wickets. Chennai secured a seven-wicket victory by successfully chasing down the target in 17.4 overs.
During the post-match presentation, Jadeja expressed his desire to receive a nickname from CSK fans, similar to how MS Dhoni is known as ‘Thala’ and Suresh Raina as ‘Chinna Thala’.
“My title hasn’t yet been verified, hopefully, they’ll give me one,” Jadeja said.
Immediately following these remarks, CSK officially bestowed the title of ‘Cricket Thalapathy’ upon Ravindra Jadeja across their official social media platforms.

Ravindra Jadeja has a deep-rooted connection with the Chennai-based team, having been associated with them for a long time. In 2022, he was appointed as captain, but he relinquished the position after just eight matches, leading to MS Dhoni resuming leadership of the team.

Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Sunil Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Venkatesh Iyer, significantly hampering KKR’s ability to set a formidable total.
During the post-match presentation, Jadeja expressed his enjoyment of bowling on such pitches and highlighted the challenge for visiting teams in gauging the conditions at Chepauk.
“Always enjoy my bowling on these kind of tracks. Was just looking to bowl in good areas. I’ve practiced a lot here – if you bowl in good areas, it helps you.”
”Takes time for the visiting team to settle down and plan something. Difficult for them to come here and identify the surface. We know the conditions very well,” Jadeja stated.
CSK currently holds the fourth position in the IPL 2024 points table, having secured three victories out of five matches played.
