MS Dhoni has been with Chennai Super Kings ever since the first IPL season and has been their captain eversince. He has won three titles with the franchise a couple of Champions League titles as well. Aging 39, he is ready to lead the franchise in yet another IPL season. The side finished seventh in the points table last year under him and this year os he ready to rewrite the script and play the way CSK is known for. 

Meanwhile, former BCCI President and CSK team owner N Srinivasan has spoken about MS Dhoni’s association with the Chennai-based IPL franchise. He also highlighted captain MS Dhoni’s contributions to the team’s success and said Dhoni and Chennai both fell in love with each other.

“There are two-three points, the first is, we must recognise that Chennai was one of the 5 original Test centres in India when Test cricket. So, when IPL was launched I said Chennai must have a team. So, India Cements wrote to then-president Sharad Pawar Sir and asked ‘can we bid?’ I have been writing the letter although I was a treasurer myself. This has been forgotten in all the statements made subsequently. India Cements did not bid without permission,” Srinivasan said while speaking at India Today’s Conclave.

“Chennai is such a cricket-loving city. It should have a franchise and this is what happened. Then MS Dhoni came, he fell in love with Chennai and Chennai fell in love with him — rest is history,” he added.

CSK will kick-off their IPL 2021 campaign against the Delhi Capitals, which will be the second game of the season on April 10. They will play five games in Mumbai, four in Delhi, three in Banglore and two in Kolkata. They have already started training at the Chepuk and have been busy with their preparations.
