The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming limited-overs series against Kenya. Nepal will play five T20Is followed by three one-dayers in Kenya. The upcoming series holds utmost importance for the side as they are currently placed second from the bottom, with eight wins in 20 matches in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 table.
Gyanendra Malla, Shahab Alam, and Bibek Yadav marked their comeback to the national team, wicketkeeper Binod Bhandari and opener batter Kushal Bhurtel have been left out from the team. Former captain Gyanendra Malla has earned a recall to the side, while young wicketkeeper-batter Arjun Saud has earned a maiden call-up to the national side.
Leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane will lead the side in the five T20Is against Kenya before he leaves for the West Indies to participate in the Caribbean Premier League (IPL). Rohit Paudel, who has been appointed as Lamichhane’s deputy in the T20Is, will take over the leadership baton in the 50-over format.
Meanwhile, this will be former India cricketer Manoj Prabhakar’s first assignment as Nepal’s head coach, who took over the reins from Pubudu Dassanayake.
