[WATCH] Nida Dar Raises Eyebrows After Withdrawing From Tahlia McGrath’s Delivery

Nida Dar, a veteran Pakistani all-rounder, sparked controversy in the third and final ODI against Australia when she opted out of facing a delivery at the last moment. The Australian players were irritated by her antics because the ball had hit the stumps only to be ruled a dead ball by the on-field umpire.

Pakistan needed to chase a mammoth total of 336 runs to avoid a whitewash in the three-match ODI series, according to Bismah Maroof. While her team made a strong start in the record run chase, the Australian bowlers responded with a couple of wickets after the powerplay. Despite those two crucial blows, the Women in Green were in a strong position as the skipper and Nida Dar batted steadily.

During Tahlia McGrath’s 27th over, however, a contentious moment took centre stage. The tall Australian ran quickly and bowled the fifth ball of the over, but Nida Dar, who was on strike, swayed away just as the ball pitched and struck her stumps. The batter had pulled out of the delivery, so the on-field umpire called it a dead ball. However, the home team was dissatisfied because they believed the batter had a clear view of the ball and pulled out too late.

Nida Dar is one of the key players of Pakistan:

Earlier in the game, after Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first, the hosts were invited to bat first. The Australians were rocked early in their innings when Phoebe Litchfield was cheaply dismissed in the eighth over. However, mercurial opener Beth Mooney, who had scored a quick half-century in the previous game, put the Pakistani bowlers to the sword with a sensational 133 off only 105 deliveries.

Meg Lanning of Australia also contributed, scoring 72 off 70 deliveries before Annabel Sutherland and Ashleigh Gardner’s quick cameos propelled them to a daunting total of 336 runs in 50 overs. Pakistan got off to a good start in the chase but fell apart in the middle overs and could only manage 235 runs as the hosts completed a clean sweep of the ODI series.
