Rwanda Stuns produced a major upset as they defeated West Indies in the Super Six match played at Absa Puk Oval, Potchefstroom on 22nd January 2023.

West Indies captain Ashmini Munisar won the toss and decided to bat first. Rwanda Stuns bowlers kept the pressure on opponent batters showing intent before Ishimwe got the breakthrough dismissing Zaida James caught by H Ishimwe.

Usambyimana dismissed Naijanni Cumberbatch with lovely stumping by Uwase. At the end of the first six overs, the West Indies women made 25 for 2. The left-handed Tumukunde looked impressive with her bowling putting pressure on opponent batters picking wickets at regular intervals. It was a superb bowling effort by Rwanda Stuns bowlers to skittle out West Indies for just 70 in 16.3 overs. Marie Tumukunde and Usabyimana grabbed 4 wickets each while Zurufat Ishimwe took 2 wickets.

Chasing down 71 runs to win, Rwanda batters did not look comfortable against disciplined West Indies bowling. Rwanda captain Gisele Ishimwe looked impressive with her shots keeping the scoreboard ticking. West Indies reduced Rwanda to 40 for 6 before captain Ishimwe and Irera showed great fight and courage. Both of them added unbeaten 31 runs for the 7th wicket as Rwanda won the match by 4 wickets with 10 balls to spare.

Rwanda made headlines with their stunning show

Rwanda’s performance was stunning as they defeated West Indies in a low-scoring thriller. For her unbeaten 31 off 53 balls, Ishmiwe was named the player of the match. Rwanda did not qualify for the semi-finals as they 5th in the Super Six stage with 2 points from 4 games. They gave a tough fight to New Zealand in the opening match of the Super Six stage. Rwanda Stuns made 96 for 7 in 20 overs as New Zealand chased down the target with 4 wickets remaining.

Rwanda stunned Zimbabwe in a Group B match at the same venue. It looked impressive with its attitude. They have been eliminated along with West Indies, and Ireland. England, Pakistan, and New Zealand are still in contention for the semi-finals stage.

India Under 19 team dominated to defeat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets. They restricted Sri Lanka Under 19 to 59 for 9 in 20 overs and chased down the target in 7.2 overs.
