“One Area That Needs To Be Looked At In Future”- Sourav Ganguly Demands For Balanced Contest

Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of India and current director of cricket for Delhi Capitals (DC), has expressed concerns regarding the imbalance between batting and bowling in the ongoing IPL season.

With flat pitches and new regulations favouring batsmen, bowlers have struggled, leading to high-scoring matches becoming commonplace. Teams have frequently surpassed the 200-run mark, reflecting the dominance of powerful batting on tracks conducive to batters.

The introduction of the ‘Impact Player’ rule, permitting an extra batter as a substitute, has exacerbated the issue for bowlers.

Ganguly emphasized the need to regain some equality. “Not easy for the bowlers. They are being carted all over and that’s one area that needs to be looked at in the future, the balance between bat and ball,” he said as reported by India Today during the pre-match press briefing.

We’ve conceded 400 runs but also managed to score them ourselves: Sourav Ganguly

The renowned opener pointed out occurrences such as SunRisers Hyderabad’s 125-run powerplay and Travis Head’s rapid 89 off 32 balls as illustrations of the bowlers’ difficulties.

“Our batting lineup is formidable as well. We’ve conceded 400 runs but also scored them. The pitch here is exceptionally good, favoring batsmen,” Ganguly remarked.

Ganguly isn’t alone in addressing the ongoing concerns regarding bowlers; cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has previously advocated for larger boundaries. Ahead of DC’s upcoming match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 27th at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Ganguly also revealed that star batsman David Warner and fast bowler Ishant Sharma would be unavailable for the forthcoming clash.

Based on the points standings, the home team currently occupies sixth place with eight points, whereas the away team is positioned ninth with six points. Both sides are aiming for a victory to improve their standings and enhance their chances of reaching the playoffs.
