IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has said that Indian players will not be allowed to participate in foreign leagues. Dhumal, who succeeded Brijesh Patel as the IPL chairman, has the same stance as his predecessors on the participation of Indian players in foreign leagues.

The reason for this is the overall well-being of players. The BCCI, the apex cricketing body of India, has faced criticisms over the decision not to allow players to participate in other leagues. Dhumal told NDTV in an interview:

“This in principle is the decision of BCCI that our contracted players can’t go and play for other leagues. As it is there is so much of cricket happening. Keeping in mind their overall well-being that decision has been taken. As of now, we stick to that decision.”

Team India players are currently allowed to compete in other leagues worldwide if they retire from all the formats of cricket and take special permission from the BCCI. Still, the contracted players are not allowed to compete in such leagues.

“IPL will be much bigger than what it is” – Arun Dhumal

The BCCI intends to make the IPL a bigger event, making it a 94-match event in the coming cycle. Speaking about the upcoming season of the IPL, he said:

“The IPL will be much bigger than what it is and will be the number one sports league in the world. We are definitely looking at various innovations that can be brought to make it more fan-friendly. For those who are watching it on Tv and those who are experiencing it at the stadium, we want them to have a better experience. If we can make the IPL schedule well in advance, people from all around the world can plan their travel accordingly. It should be a value-for-money experience for the fans.”

He hopes to make the IPL a more accessible experience for all fans, those at home and at the stadium and attract global audiences.
