The recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has sharply intensified diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan. On April 22, 26 tourists tragically lost their lives in the incident, sparking strong reactions from the Indian government. In response, India has implemented various measures aimed at isolating Pakistan not only on political grounds but also within the sports arena.
These developments have cast uncertainty over the upcoming Asia Cup, as reported by the Times of India. The escalating conflict has placed significant strain on bilateral ties, pushing India to reconsider its sporting commitments with Pakistan.
Asia Cup 2025 Faces Uncertainty
The Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in September following India’s series against Bangladesh, now faces the threat of postponement. Originally planned to be held at a neutral venue, the tournament’s location remains undecided.

Sources familiar with the matter have indicated that, given the strained relations between India and Pakistan, postponing the tournament is a likely outcome. The political climate has made it increasingly difficult to stage matches involving both nations, especially in a highly sensitive period like this. If the tournament does go ahead, it may adopt a hybrid model, where Pakistan’s matches would be hosted in Sri Lanka or the UAE, while India would play elsewhere.
Bangladesh Tour Also in Doubt
Further complications have arisen regarding India’s scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh. The series, which includes ODIs and T20Is, is part of the cricketing calendar, but its status is now uncertain. The situation was further inflamed after retired Bangladeshi army officer Maj Gen ALM Fazlur Rahman made controversial statements about India’s northeastern states, creating additional diplomatic strain.
According to the report, there is a strong possibility that India may withdraw from the tour due to the current geopolitical scenario. While the tour has not yet been officially canceled, discussions are ongoing, and a final decision is pending. The Asia Cup’s dates and venues also remain unconfirmed, adding to the overall uncertainty surrounding upcoming cricket events in the region.
