Everyone is eagerly waiting for cricket to resume and cricket boards are trying to find a window of various events. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants the Asia Cup to take place later this year. Recently BCCI had suggested the PCB to delay the remaining matches of the PSL and play Asia Cup during that period.

However, PCB is firm on their stand of playing PSL and Asia Cup both around September-October this year. On the other hand, BCCI is also thinking of hosting IPL during that same period. The CEO of PCB Wasim Khan stated that they are not even considering the thought given by BCCI of shifting the PSL to next year.

BCCI-PCB at loggerheads

“The Asia Cup will go ahead. The Pakistan team returns from England on 2nd September so we can have the tournament in September or October”, said Wasim Khan.

Earlier this year the playoffs matches of the Pakistan Super League were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. PCB wants to finish the remaining matches of their T20 league before or just after playing the Asia Cup. This would mean that BCCI will not be able to conduct IPL in September this year.

“Asia Cup will be a struggle this year. Going by the statement of the Chief Executive of the PCB, the window that suits them doesn’t suit India. Maybe they can postpone PSL next year if BCCI is able to open up a window during that period. Otherwise conducting the Asia Cup doesn’t seem too practical as these are challenging times”, BCCI functionary revealed.

Clearly, both BCCI and PCB are very rigid on their respective stands. The only window possible for IPL this year is September-October as India will tour Australia later this year. The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has already told all the IPL franchises to stay optimistic about playing the IPL this year itself.

Also a few weeks ago it was reported that PCB has agreed to play this year’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.
