West Indies produced a dominant performance to secure their first ODI series victory over Pakistan since 1991, winning the third and deciding match at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad by a massive 202 runs. Jayden Seales was the star with the ball, claiming six wickets, while captain Shai Hope anchored the innings with an unbeaten 120.
This 2-1 series triumph came as a welcome boost for the Men in Maroon, especially after missing out on qualification for the recent ODI World Cup. Hope’s leadership and Seales’ fiery bowling combined to end Pakistan’s long-standing dominance in the bilateral contests between the two teams.
Hope and Greaves Lift Hosts to Strong Total
Opting to field first, Pakistan struck early through Naseem Shah, who dismissed Brandon King cheaply. Evin Lewis played confidently but was removed for 37 by Abrar Ahmed. Spinners Abrar and Saim Ayub kept the run flow in check during the middle overs, forcing West Indies to rebuild. Shai Hope continued to rotate the strike and find boundaries, but partners Keacy Carty (17) and Sherfane Rutherford (15) fell in their attempts to accelerate.
The turning point came with Roston Chase’s brisk 36 off 29 balls, featuring three fours and two sixes, which shifted the momentum. This allowed Hope to attack in the final overs and complete his 18th ODI century. Justin Greaves joined in with an unbeaten 43 off just 24 deliveries, sharing an unbroken 110-run stand with Hope. The West Indies closed on 294 for 5, with Pakistan’s wickets shared between Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed, Saim Ayub, and Mohammad Nawaz.
Seales Destroys Pakistan Batting Line-Up
Chasing 295, Pakistan’s innings unraveled almost immediately under Seales’ devastating opening spell. He removed Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, and Mohammad Rizwan for ducks, while captain Babar Azam could only manage 9 before falling. By the time Seales completed his initial burst, Pakistan’s top order was in ruins.
The middle order tried to resist but could not withstand the relentless pressure. Seales returned to finish the job, ending with remarkable figures of 6 for 18 in 7.2 overs. Gudakesh Motie claimed two wickets and Roston Chase added one as Pakistan were dismissed for just 92 runs. This crushing defeat sealed a memorable series win for West Indies and marked the end of a 34-year wait for ODI supremacy over Pakistan.
