India is walking towards a pitfall with the daily number of Covid-19 cases is increasing on each passing day. On Sunday, India had registered over 300,00 cases in a day. The death toll is also escalating daily. Amidst the crisis, Australian pacer Pat Cummins, who is representing Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) donates $50,000 to the ‘PM Cares Fund’ so that the patients can buy oxygen and other medical facilities.
Meanwhile, the crisis has turned out to be fatal in the country. People are left with no hospital beds and oxygen cylinders. Amid this catastrophe, three Australian players have pulled themselves out of the IPL amidst the ongoing pandemic. Recently, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa pulled out stating personal reasons, and Rajasthan Royals’ Andrew Tye has withdrawn himself from the IPL.
Pat Cummins comes forward to help COVID19 patients
In the middle of this crisis, Pat Cummins has come forward to donate a heavy sum to the PM Cares Fund to buy oxygen cylinders. The Aussie cricketer took it to Twitter and posted about his donation. He requested other players to make contributions.
“India is a country I have come to love dearly over the years and the people here are one of the warmest and kindest I have met. To know so many are suffering so much this time saddens me greatly,” Cummins wrote.
“There has been quite a bit of discussion over here as to whether it is appropriate for IPL to continue while COVID-19 infection rates remain high. I am advised that the Indian Government is of the view that playing the IPL while the population is in lockdown provides a few hours of joy and respite each day at an otherwise difficult time for the country,” he said in the statement.

“As players, we are privileged to have a platform that allows us to reach millions of people that we can use for good. With that in mind, I have made a contribution to the “PM Cares Fund,” specifically to purchase oxygen supplies for India’s hospitals,” the pacer wrote.
“I encourage my fellow IPL players – and anyone around else in the world who has been touched by India’s passion and generosity – to contribute. I will kick it off with $50,000,” Pat Cummins concluded.
