During a review meeting organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the blame was directed towards the previous administration for the injuries that players endured in the recent Asia Cup. Zaka Ashraf, along with key figures like Mickey Arthur, Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Mohammad Hafeez, met to review the Pakistan Men’s cricket team’s performance in the ACC Asia Cup 2023.
The meeting involved the entire national coaching staff, including head coach Grant Bradburn, batting coach Andrew Puttick, and bowling coach Morne Morkel, conducting a detailed review of the team’s recent performance.
Dr. Sohail Saleem also shared insights into player injuries and rehabilitation plans for the future. During a comprehensive analysis, the group examined multiple aspects, such as team performance, player fitness, and strategies for enhancing the team’s overall performance.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the recognition of the necessity for an improved approach to managing player workload and the importance of strengthening the team’s bench. Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the Management Committee, highlighted the significance of fostering open discussions and achieving consensus, expressing that:
“Discussion revealed that the previous management had allowed a lot of players to play league cricket which caused them to fatigued ahead of their national duty. But going forward we have agreed to form a proactive approach to tackle players’ workload and give national duty a priority,” as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
Ashraf expressed optimism about the team’s potential, saying, “Our team is filled with talent, and we believe they can compete and win at the highest level. We have world-class batters and bowlers and are committed to providing them with the necessary support and resources to ensure they are well-equipped ahead of the mega event.”
Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, who was unable to participate in the meeting due to a medical emergency, held a separate discussion with Zaka Ashraf to share his insights. Following the assessment, Inzamam concluded the selection of the Pakistan squad for the ICC World Cup, with an official announcement planned for a press conference at 11:15 a.m. in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on Friday morning.
