South Africa lost the first T20I against Pakistan despite Tabraiz Shamsi’s heroics with the ball. He picked 2 for 19 in his spell of four overs. His wickets included Fakhar Zaman and Mohammed Hafeez. He got Hafeez stumped on his 100th T20I international for Pakistan. He has entered a list of cricketers who have played 100 T20Is for their country. Hafeez along with Shoaib Malik are the two Pakistan cricketers to get to that landmark. Shahid Afridi played 99 T20Is for his country.

Meanwhile, after getting both those wickets he brought out his popular telephone celebration. As he struck, the spinner took off his shoe and held it near his ear, as if he making a phone call to someone. He has been doing the celebration for some time now and has been doing so both in international and franchise cricket.

Meanwhile, his South African teammate Pite Van Biljob found a unique way to surprise him during his celebration. After he had completed his famous celebration, Biljon cunningly did hide his shoe under his shirt. This left Shamisi confused as he looked for his shoe before delivering his next ball.

Speaking of his strange celebration, his teammate Rassie van der Dussen had revealed that he pretends to call Imran Tahir by taking off his one shoe every time after taking a wicket. “Yeah Shamsi always phones to Immy (Imran Tahir). Immy is obviously one of his heroes, and they work together a lot. So it was a nice moment for Shamsi to take a big wicket of Dhawan like Immy for us,” van der Dussen had said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan pulled off their highest run-chase in the first T20I against South Africa. Needing 189 to win, the Men in Green rode to victory on the back of Mohammad Rizwan’s brilliant 74. Faheem Ashraf’s cameo of 30 runs off just 14 balls helped Pakistan cross the finishing line.

The second T20I will be played in Johannesburg later today with the final two games in Centurion on April 14 and 16. Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1 heading into the four-match T20I series.
