Watch: Tabraiz Shamsi’s Wicket Celebration Against Pakistan Goes Viral

South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi’s defining spell with the ball was not enough to see his team home inn the first T20I against Pakistan. He bowled a spell of 2 for 29 picking up wickets of Mohammed Hafeez and Fakhar Zaman. However, his efforts were not enough as Pakistan beat South Africa in the first of the four T20Is in Johannesburg.

Meanwhile, Tabraiz Shamsi’s wicket celebration went viral on social media. He got Hafeez stumped on his 100th T20I international for Pakistan. He has entered a list of cricketers who have played 100 T20Is for their country. Hafeez along with Shoaib Malik are the two Pakistan cricketers to get to that landmark. Shahid Afridi played 99 T20Is for his country.

Shamsi was seen celebrating unusually twice as he bagged the wickets of Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez in the 10th and 14th over, respectively. As he struck, the spinner took off his shoe and held it near his ear, as if he making a phone call to someone. He has been doing the celebration for some time now and has been doing so both in international and franchise cricket.

Tabraiz Shamsi’s Unique Wicket Celebration

Speaking of his strange celebration, his teammate Rassie van der Dussen had revealed that he pretends to call Imran Tahir by taking off his one shoe every time after taking a wicket. “Yeah Shamsi always phones to Immy (Imran Tahir). Immy is obviously one of his heroes, and they work together a lot. So it was a nice moment for Shamsi to take a big wicket of Dhawan like Immy for us,” van der Dussen had said.

The second T20I will be played in Johannesburg later today with the final two games in Centurion on April 14 and 16. Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1 heading into the four-match T20I series.
