Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan continued his brilliant run in the T20I series against South Africa on Tuesday. He slammed 54 runs to help India get to 179 in the first innings of the third T20I at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Ishan came out to open the innings along with Ruturaj Gaikwad. While Gaikwad was the aggressor initially, Ishan too started to take on the bowlers after the powerplay. Together, the openers put up 97 runs for the first wicket in around ten overs. Ishan continued his batting assault even after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dismissal.

The left-hander slammed Keshav Maharaj for a boundary, and a six in the twelfth over. This was followed by another boundary on the last delivery off the over to complete his half-century. He was dismissed in the fourteenth over, to Dwaine Pretorius, as Reeza Hendricks took a catch at the deep extra cover.

During his 35-deliveries stay at the crease, Ishan smashed five boundaries and two sixes. This was Ishan’s second 50-plus score in the series. In the first T20I, he scored 76 runs off 48 balls, including eleven boundaries and three sixes. Ishan averages 54.67 in the series, scoring 164 runs in three matches.

India sets SA target of 180 in the third T20I

The Indian team managed to put on 179 runs in twenty overs after being asked to bat first by the South African skipper Temba Bavuma. Indian openers Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s blistering knocks helped the team to get off to a good start. However, middle-order could not capitalize on the foundation laid by the openers.

Hardik Pandya’s late in the innings took India to 179. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the top scorer in the innings with 57 runs off 35 balls, including seven boundaries and two sixes. Meanwhile, Dwaine Pretorius finished the innings with 2/29 in his four overs to help South Africa make a comeback in the match.

The Rishabh Pant-led team is trailing the five-match T20I series 2-0. They will be hoping to defend the total to keep themselves alive in the series.
