TheĀ  Indian cricket was shocked after the suspension of Prithvi Shaw on doping violations. Shaw seemed to have consumed a cough syrup in excess containing the chemical “terbutaline”. This ultimately led to his suspension from the Indian cricket. BCCI”s Anti-Doping manager Dr. Abhijit Slavi responded on these series of events.

He said that Shaw must have known the protocol but might have overlooked for some reason. But he gave a clear statement that it wasn”t by any means to enhance his performance but just an accident.

In an exclusive interview with ESPNCricinfo, he said “I am sure Prithvi Shaw knew about BCCI having an anti-doping program and the helpline. He attended at least three anti-doping education programs with us. He might have even attended the ICCā€™s program conducted at the Under-19 World Cup in 2018. So he was well aware, but probably he just overlooked it and thought to himself ā€˜okay, the cough syrup shouldnā€™t be that dangerous.ā€

Pathan received suspension on similar grounds as Prithvi Shaw back in 2017.

ā€œEarlier, people were casual and did not bother checking all the medicines they were consuming. Yusufā€™s case was an eye-opener for everyone. Other cricketers realized that they needed to be careful, too. Thatā€™s when people who did not call earlier started checking their medicines regularly,ā€ he concluded.

Unavailability for the home series

The selection committee will not shed its light on Prithvi Shaw till November 15. He will be eligible for selections only after the mentioned timeline.
