Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Priyansh Arya reached a significant milestone during the IPL 2025 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3. The left-handed batsman set a new record for the most runs scored by a player in their debut IPL season.
The 24-year-old surpassed Devdutt Padikkal’s previous record of 473 runs for RCB in 2020 by amassing 475 runs across 16 innings at an impressive strike rate of 179.24. His standout performances included a rapid 39-ball century against Chennai Super Kings and two half-centuries during the season.
In the final, Arya contributed 24 runs off 19 balls against RCB. Punjab Kings secured Arya at the 2025 mega auction for a hefty INR 3.8 crore following an intense bidding war last year.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) head coach Ricky Ponting was full of admiration for Priyansh Arya at the beginning of IPL 2025. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, the former Australian captain said:
“Priyansh Arya, I think, is a very special potential opening batsman for us going forward in the tournament. Depending on which way we go with our overseas make-up, he’s very exciting.”
Priyansh Arya first caught the public eye after hitting six consecutive sixes in a single over during the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) in 2024. He further grabbed headlines in IPL 2025 by smashing the fifth-fastest century of the tournament, which came against the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
He made an impactful IPL debut, scoring a quickfire 47 off just 23 balls against the Gujarat Titans (GT). He continued his fine form with standout knocks of 69 off 35 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and 62 off 35 against the Mumbai Indians (MI) during the league stage. Now, the Delhi-born batter will be eager to carry his outstanding IPL form into the domestic cricket season.
