PSL 2024: [WATCH]- Mohammad Rizwan And Usama Mir Displayed Football Skills To Prevent A Boundary

Multan Sultans’ players Mohammad Rizwan and Usama Mir showcased their football skills to stop a boundary during the PSL 2024 match against Islamabad United in Multan on February 20. This incident occurred in the first ball of the 11th over of Islamabad’s innings when Jordan Cox hit a full delivery from Olly Stone behind the wicket towards the fine-leg boundary.

However, the fielder at fine-leg went past the ball, putting it on track to reach the boundary. At the same time, Rizwan dashed from his wicket-keeping spot and made a diving kick to redirect the ball away from the boundary.

The ball was still on course to reach the boundary, but Mir hurried in from the third-man area and skillfully used his feet to prevent the boundary. The pair saved two runs for the team, as the batsmen only managed to complete a couple.

The fielding display epitomized Multan Sultans’ overall energy and commitment in the match, limiting Islamabad to 144 in their 20 overs. In response, the home team faced some challenges but ultimately secured victory with five wickets in hand and one ball remaining.

“Our team has a strong and well-rounded lineup”- Mohammad Rizwan

Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan expressed satisfaction with the team’s back-to-back victories, starting their PSL 2024 journey on a positive note. The 31-year-old led by example, contributing a crucial 43 runs from 33 deliveries and participating in a pivotal partnership of 71 runs with top-scorer Reeza Hendricks, who made 58 off 46 balls.

During the post-match presentation, Rizwan stated:

“The way we started in the chase, we thought it would be a tough chase, but we had wickets in hand. We have good balance in our squad. Our batters are in good form as well.”

“Almost all the batters got runs thus far and that is always a good sign moving forward. I don’t really focus too much on strengths and weaknesses, would like to treat it as one game at a time.”

Multan Sultans secured the second position in the last two PSL seasons, facing defeats in the finals against Lahore Qalandars on both occasions. They began this season with a convincing 55-run victory over the Karachi Kings, followed by an exhilarating win against Islamabad.

In a swift turnaround, Multan is set to confront Lahore in their upcoming match on February 21, a rematch of the previous two PSL finals. Surprisingly, Lahore has encountered difficulties, losing both matches against Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators.
