“Must Have Missed Australia For 20 Years” – After Nasser Hussain, Michael Clarke Slams Ben Duckett For Yashasvi Jaiswal Remark

Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke has slammed Ben Duckett for his comments on Yashasvi Jaiswal during the third test of the ongoing India vs England series at Rajkot. The England batter was also criticised by Nasser Hussain earlier for his remark.

Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed a double century in the Rajkot test. He scored 214 runs off just 236 deliveries with fourteen boundaries and twelve sixes. Ben Duckett hailed the Indian cricketer for his performance. He also suggested that England’s ‘Bazball’ deserves credit for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s aggressive approach. Duckett said,

“He looks like a superstar in the making, unfortunately, he’s in some very good form at the moment. When you see players from the opposition playing like that, it almost feels like we should take some credit that they’re playing differently than how other people play Test cricket. We saw it a bit in the summer and it’s quite exciting to see other players and other teams are also playing that aggressive style of cricket.”

Michael Clarke criticises Ben Duckett’s comment

Ben Duckett’s comment has attracted a lot of criticism from former cricketers. Michael Clarke expressed that Duckett must not have heard of the likes of Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist, who were pioneers of attacking cricket in Tests.

“He (Duckett) must have missed Australia for 20 years,” former Australia skipper Clarke said on ESPN Australia.

“As a youngster, he must not know what Test cricket Australia played. Has he heard of Matthew Hayden, Michael Slater, Ricky Ponting, Damien Martyn, and Adam Gilchrist? These guys used to smack it as good as everyone,” he added.

“Because you play a reverse sweep, switch hit, or ramp shot, that doesn’t mean you are batting aggressively either. Matthew Hayden just walked down the wicket and hit you straight over your head for a six. He didn’t have to play a ramp or a switch hit,” Clarke said further.

Talking about the series, India is leading 2-1 after the end of the third test. They defeated England by 434 runs at Rajkot. The fourth match will take place from Friday, February 23 at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
