Former England captain Nasser Hussain criticised Ben Duckett’s comment that England deserves credit for Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal playing an aggressive brand of cricket. The youngster’s attacking approach powered India to a brilliant win in Rajkot in the third test against England.
Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed an unbeaten double-century in the second innings of the test. He scored 214 runs off just 236 deliveries, smashing fourteen boundaries and twelve sixes. The left-handed batter is the leading run-scorer in the series so far. He has scored 545 runs at an average of 109 in three matches. England batter Ben Duckett suggested that they deserve some credit for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting approach. However, Nasser Hussain disagrees with his statement. The former cricketer said to Michael Atherton on the Sky Sports podcast,
“The comment on Jaiswal that he has learned from us, I am going to touch on that. He has not learned from you, he has learned from his upbringing and all the hard yards he has put in while growing up, he has learned from the IPL. If anything, I would look at him and learn from him.”
There is room for learning and improving: Nasser Hussain
Former cricketer Nasser Hussain further expressed that England needs to introspect ahead of the fourth Test match. He added that they should be open to criticism in order to improve their performance. Speaking to Mike Atherton, Nasser Hussain said,
“So, whatever they are saying in public and in that dressing room, I hope they are going back into their room with self-introspection. I can look at that lad and learn from him. Otherwise, it becomes a cult, doesn’t it? At times, Bazball has been described as a cult where you cannot criticise either within or externally. Even in this regime, there is room for learning and improving.”
India has taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match test series against England. The fourth test is set to take place from Friday, February 23 at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
