Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav’s IPL 2025 campaign has ended in disappointment once again after another injury ruled him out of the remainder of the tournament. The fast bowler had already missed most of the season but was cleared to return before the league was paused — only to suffer another setback soon after.
Mayank was recovering at the CoE in Bengaluru after an injury in October 2024 during his debut series against Bangladesh. He returned against Mumbai Indians after a long break but showed a significant drop in pace and lacked the rhythm and intensity from his debut season.
In his next outing against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala, Mayank conceded 60 runs without taking a wicket, and was hit for three consecutive sixes by Josh Inglis in his opening over. A source has raised concerns over how he was cleared to play by the CoE physios despite limited practice sessions and without bowling at full intensity.
“For a bowler who had such a long absence from the game, it’s surprising that it took the CoE just 10-12 sessions to give him a green signal. One-third of those sessions were at a reduced intensity, and he started bowling at 80-85% only towards the end of March,” a source told the Times of India.
CoE Shake-Up During Mayank’s Rehab Raises Questions Over Injury Management
During a key phase of Mayank Yadav’s recovery, CoE saw a major change with Nitin Patel stepping down as Head of Sports Science. Rehab duties were handed to lead physio Dhananjay Kaushik. A source also questioned why Mayank’s injury-prone action wasn’t addressed during his entire rehab process.
“It is baffling why his action isn’t addressed yet. His body continues to fall towards the side after landing, and that impact will continue to add stress to his back. It is like a car running at 150 kmph and taking a sudden left turn.”
“The pace which he generates is because of the natural gift of the hyperextension of the elbow of the bowling arm. Action needs to be addressed, and he needs a proper rehabilitation plan which should have no interference from anyone – franchise, state team or anyone,” the source added.
Across two complete IPL seasons, Mayank Yadav has featured in just six matches and has managed to complete his full four-over quota in only four of them.
