R Ashwin Slams The User For Fabricating His Quote On Kohli’s Retirement

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took a witty jab at an X user who falsely attributed a statement to him regarding Virat Kohli’s retirement. The parody account claimed that Ashwin had revealed on his YouTube channel that Kohli was planning to retire soon to spend more time with his family.

In response, Ashwin sarcastically remarked, “Heartwarming to see humans still excelling at creative storytelling in this AI era. Nice script but maybe check with me next time before casting me in the lead role?” His remark highlighted the ongoing issue of misinformation on social media, where fabricated quotes often create unnecessary controversy.

Retirement Speculations Around Kohli and Rohit

Following their T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from T20 internationals, sparking speculation about their future in the ODI format. While some believe Kohli might step away soon, many experts argue that his fitness level allows him to continue playing for at least another two to three years.

Former cricketers have emphasized that Kohli’s discipline and commitment to the game make him a valuable asset for the Indian team. As India prepares for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand, Kohli remains a key player, reinforcing his importance in crucial matches.

Ashwin Praises Shreyas Iyer’s Impact on Kohli’s Game

In addition to addressing the false quote, Ashwin also praised Shreyas Iyer for his significant role in easing pressure off Virat Kohli during matches. He explained that Iyer’s aggressive approach against spin prevents opposition teams from deploying a spin choke, allowing Kohli to play more freely. Ashwin highlighted how their partnership in the middle overs creates a strategic advantage for India.

He further pointed out that Kohli’s success is partly due to Iyer’s ability to take on spinners, just as Iyer benefits from Kohli’s presence at the crease. This dynamic pairing has been instrumental in India’s campaign, with both players contributing significantly to the team’s strong performances in the tournament.

As India gears up for the Champions Trophy final, Kohli remains the team’s leading run-scorer, closely followed by Iyer. Their partnership will be crucial in India’s quest for another major ICC title.
