Rahul Dravid Gives A Heartfelt Tribute To Rohit Sharma

Former Indian head coach Rahul Dravid had high praise for Rohit Sharma after the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) honoured the former India Test captain by naming a stand after him at Wankhede Stadium. In a video shared by Mumbai Indians, Dravid opened with a humorous note, saying Rohit had hit so many sixes into the stands that one had to be named after him.

He followed this light-hearted comment with genuine admiration, acknowledging Sharma’s long-standing contributions to Indian and Mumbai cricket. Dravid said the naming of the stand was a fitting tribute to Rohit’s exceptional journey, especially at a venue as iconic as Wankhede.

Rohit’s Gratitude and Reflections

At the unveiling ceremony, Rohit Sharma expressed deep gratitude, calling the moment a dream come true. He said he had never imagined, even as a young boy aspiring to play for Mumbai and India, that a stand would one day bear his name. For him, it was all about playing the game, serving the nation, and reaching milestones along the way.

Rohit remarked that being honoured while still active in cricket, despite retiring from two formats, made the occasion even more surreal. He shared his excitement about returning to the stadium on May 21 to play for Mumbai Indians, adding that performing in front of a stand named after him would be a truly special experience.

More Honours at Wankhede

The MCA didn’t just stop at Rohit Sharma. During the same event, two more stands were dedicated to notable figures in Indian cricket history. One stand was named after Sharad Pawar, who formerly held leadership roles with the MCA, BCCI, and ICC.

Another was dedicated to Ajit Wadekar, a former India captain. In addition, the MCA Office Lounge was inaugurated in memory of Amol Kale, the late president of the association. These dedications marked a significant day in Mumbai cricket, celebrating both past legends and a current icon who continues to inspire a generation.
