The Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder Rahul Tewatia has come out with a heartfelt post after the selectors once again ignored him for the upcoming Ireland series. The All India Senior Selection Committee on Wednesday picked a 17-member squad for the two T20Is.

While Rahul Tripathi got his long due with a maiden call-up, Tewatia was not considered in the absence of many senior cricketers. Incidentally, the first-choice cricketers will be busy with rescheduled fifth Test against England.

Rahul Tewatia has been consistently performing in the IPL for the last few seasons. He took his game to a new level in the recently concluded IPL 2022, carrying the Titans to victories with jaw-dropping counter-attacks.

Hence, it was certain that he was heartbroken after being felt out once again. The 29-year-old expressed his disappointment on social media. He wrote, “Expectations hurts.”

Rahul Tewatia had a scintillating season for the Gujarat Titans, producing many odds-defying run chases this season on a couple of occasions. He amassed 217 runs in 16 games at a strike rate of almost 150.

He was at his best against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) when he took on Odean Smith to chase down 12 runs from the final two deliveries. Rahul Tewatia produced a similar performance against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he and Rashid Khan scored 33 runs off the last two overs to take the Titans home.

Rahul Tewatia created carnage against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). With 71 runs required in the last six overs, the duo smacked nine boundaries and three sixes to chase down the total with three balls to spare. Tewatia was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ for his breathtaking 43 off just 25 balls.

India’s squad for Ireland series

In the absence of senior cricketers, Hardik Pandya has been named as the captain for the two-match series. He recently guided the Titans to IPL 2022 in their maiden season.

Suryakumar Yadav has returned to the squad after recovering fully from injury. Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has also returned to the squad after being left out of the five-match series against South Africa.

India squad for Ireland T20Is: Hardik Pandya (Captain), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik
