The veteran pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar makes a stunning comeback into the Ranji Trophy arena. It was a remarkable bowling effort to bring back Uttar Pradesh with 2nd round match against Bengal played at Green Park, Kanpur on 12th January 2024.

Bengal captain Manoj Tiwari won the toss and decided to field first. It was a sensational bowling effort as their bowlers wreaked havoc bowling out Uttar Pradesh for a paltry total of 60 runs. Mohammed Kaif took 4 for 14, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal took 3 and Ishan Porel finished with 2 wickets.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar showed his class with a sensational bowling effort that put the Bengal team under pressure. He got the breakthrough dismissing Sourav Paul and providing a simple catch to Dhruv Juyel. The medium pace bowler broke the backbone of the Bengal team getting quick wickets of Sudip Kumar Gharami, experienced Anstup Majumdar, and captain Manoj Tiwari, and then ended up grabbing Abhishek Porel to leave Bengal in trouble.

Sayan Ghosh and Karan Lal are at the crease for Bengal as they ended the first day at 95 for 5 leading Uttar Pradesh by 35 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled with great control to end with figures of 5 for 25 in 13 overs.

The veteran pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a comeback into the Ranji Trophy after a gap of 8 years. He was making a comeback into red-ball cricket since the 2018 Test match against South Africa at Johannesburg.

During the previous red ball cricket, Bhuvneshwar Kumar grabbed 3 for 44 in 19 overs during the first innings against South Africa. He took 1 for 39 in 18 overs as the Indian team registered a historic 63-run victory on a tough batting pitch that had enough bounce and pace.

Kumar made his first-class against Bengal at Eden Gardens on 17th December 2007. He was superb with 3 for 25 in 10 overs during the first innings while giving away 42 runs in his 9 overs without picking any wickets. Uttar Pradesh won the match by an innings and 152 runs.
