Gujarat Titans stunned table toppers Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring thriller played at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on 10th April 2024. GT captain Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to field first. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s poor form continued to be dismissed cheaply again. Rashid Khan was bought into the attack in the 6th over and got rid of Jos Buttler with a simple catch to Rahul Tewaita at slips that put RR under pressure. Rashid induced the edge from Buttler that led to his wicket.
Rashid Khan was deprived as Riyan Parag was dropped twice by Matthew Wade. Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson dominated GT bowling keeping the scoreboard ticking and putting enough pressure. After the second timeout, Rashid Khan was bought into the attack and did a decent job. He ended with figures of 1 for 18 in 4 overs. Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag added 130 runs for the 3rd wicket which put GT bowlers under pressure. Shimron Hetymer also played a cameo that helped Rajasthan Royals post 196 for 3 in 20 overs.
It was a cautious start by Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill in the first six overs scoring just 44 runs. Right before the rain break, Sudharsan was dismissed by Kuldeep Sen. Sai and Gill added 64 runs for the opening wicket. Gujarat Titans looked in deep trouble losing the wickets of Matthew Wade and Abhinav Manohar after the rain delay. GT captain Shubman Gill led from the front putting pressure on RR bowlers.
Rashid Khan came to the crease in the 18th over. Rahul Tewaita and Rashid Khan showed their class by smashing 20 runs off Kuldeep Sen in the 19th over to change the momentum in favor of GT. Rashid took advantage of the field restrictions due to the slow over rate. He played some lovely shots that put pressure on RR’s bowling. With 2 runs required off the final delivery, Rashid hit a loose ball to the boundary helping GT win the match by 3 wickets.
The Afghan sensation remained not out on 24 off 11 deliveries. He along with Tewaita added 38 runs for the 7th wicket.
Impressive Run Chase By Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans has been known for run chases since its inception in 2022. Their previous highest run chase was against RCB in the 2023 edition posting 198 as Gill scored brilliant century.
Shubman Gill also looked impressive with 72 off 44 deliveries. Shahrukh Khan came as an impact player with a quickfire cameo. Rahul Tewaita ensured that Rashid Khan was on strike for the final delivery.
With this win, Gujarat Titans moved to 6 points from 6 games and would be looking to contiune their winning run.
