Ravichandran Ashwin Honoured With Special Memento And Guard Of Honour In 100th Test Match

Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is marking a significant milestone by playing his 100th Test match for India at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala. At 37 years old, Ashwin recently surpassed Anil Kumble’s record to become the fastest Indian bowler to achieve 500 Test wickets.

Accompanied by his wife Prithi and daughters, Ashwin shared this momentous occasion with his family, addressing his fellow Indian players and presenting Devdutt Paddikal with his debut cap. Acknowledging Ashwin’s remarkable achievement, India coach Rahul Dravid presented him with a special memento in the form of a 100th Test cap, in the presence of the team and his loved ones.

As Ashwin made his way onto the field for the 5th Test against England, he was honoured with a guard of honour, a tribute to his illustrious career.

Joining the esteemed company of players who have represented India in 100 or more Test matches, Ashwin now shares this distinction with cricketing legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar. Since his debut against the West Indies in 2011, Ashwin has been a cornerstone of the Indian bowling attack, amassing 507 wickets in 99 Tests, with a strike rate of 53.9 and an average of 26.5.

As Ashwin steps onto the field for his 100th Test, he has the opportunity to emulate the feats of iconic spin bowlers like Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, and Muttiah Muralitharan by claiming a five-wicket haul. Notably, Ashwin’s first five-wicket haul came against the West Indies in his debut match, adding significance to the prospect of achieving another milestone in his 100th Test.

In parallel, England’s Jonny Bairstow is also marking his 100th Test match, adding to the significance of the occasion. Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar praised both players for their dedication to the red-ball format, emphasizing the historic nature of their achievement and wishing them success in their milestone game.

In essence, Ashwin’s journey to his 100th Test match represents not only a personal milestone but also a testament to his skill, dedication, and enduring contribution to Indian cricket.
