Previously, we used to have one or two players in the past who were electric in the field, whether it is was Kapil Dev in the 80’s or Yuvraj Singh under the captaincy of Saurav Ganguly. But things really started to change when MS Dhoni took the charge and now we are a good fielding unit.
Jadeja is the best fielder – Gautam Gambhir
Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir recently rated Ravindra Jadeja as one of the best fielders of contemporary cricket. He said that Jadeja is an overall fielder, who can field at any place and has the safest pair of hands.
Speaking on Star Sports show, Cricket Connected, Gambhir explained why Jadeja is one of the best fielders in the world. “I think Jadeja is the best fielder in the world cricket, there is no better fielder than Jadeja, an overall fielder. Maybe he doesn’t field at slip and gully, but no one is better than him in throwing.
“No one covers the outfield like him. Put him at point or cover, you can get him to field anywhere. No one has a safer pair of hands than him. Ravindra Jadeja probably is the best fielder in world Cricket,” he added.
South African fielding legend Jonty Rhodes earlier rated Jadeja among the best fielders in the world saying that he has taken some spectacular catches. He also stated that Jadeja’s commitment and anticipation separate him from other fielders.
Talking to Suresh Raina during an Instagram live chat Rhodes said,” Jaddu had taken some fantastic catches. The key is that he is very committed. He is very good at anticipating the ball also.”
Rhodes also praised Suresh Raina, who himself has been an astonishing fielder. He said, “You remind me of myself. I know how hard fields are in India and I have always been a big fan (of you).”
