Ravindra Jadeja Remembers Controversy With Sanjay Manjrekar During ICC 2019 World Cup

Ravindra Jadeja played arguably one of the best knocks in World Cup cricket against New Zealand in the 2019 semifinal. He scored 77 off 59 balls as he took India very close o chasing down the score to get to the final. However, his dismissal proved the turning point as India lost the game by 18 runs and were knocked out of the tournament.

Meanwhile during the World Cup, Sanjay Manjrekar termed him as a ‘bits and pieces’ cricketer. This was majorly because Ravindra Jadeja had not come up with any notable performance in the tournament till the semifinal. Jadeja’s semifinal knock was a great response to Manjrekar’s unnecessary criticism.

Narrating the events to the Indian Express, Ravindra Jadeja said the ‘grill was hot’ for the celebration and his ‘target’ was a secret to none. He said he was searching for the commentary box while doing that celebration.

“Tab toh Bhatta garam tha, na! (The grill was hot, then!) I was searching for the commentary box. Then I thought, it must be somewhere there, only. And those who understand would know who I was targeting the celebration at!” said Jadeja.

The Indian all-rounder also responded with a tweet to Manjrekar’s criticism calling it as ‘verbal diarrhoea. “Still i have played twice the number of matches you have played and i m still playing. Learn to respect ppl who have achieved.i have heard enough of your verbal diarrhoea. @sanjaymanjrekar” responded Jadeja saying.

The Indian all-rounder recently posted a picture of him wearing Team India’s pullover for the WTC final. Jadeja has fonnd memories of playing Test match in England. He said that the 2018 Oval Test match made him a better cricketer. Coming at 160/6 in the first innings in response to England’s first innings score of 332, his knock helped India get to 292 which at the end turned out to be a respectable total. Though India lost the match, Jadeja said that the knock ‘greatly impacted’ his confidence and gave him the required momentum to turn things around in his career.

“That Test changed everything for me. Poora (complete) game. My performance, my confidence, everything. When you score in English conditions against the best bowling attack, it greatly impacts your confidence” concluded the Indian all-rounder.
