Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli has been fined for slow over-rate during their game against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Bangalore endured their first loss of IPL 2021 going down against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings by 69 runs to slip to the second spot in the points table.

After four consecutive victories, Bangalore’s winning juggernaut finally was halted by the Super Kings. Ravindra Jadeja was on fire with bat, ball, and on the ground to take the game home. He struck 37 runs in the 20th overs off Harshal Patel – the most runs conceded by a bowler in IPL, to propel Chennai to 191 runs from nowhere. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 62 runs from 28 deliveries while Faf du Plessis chipped in with a timely half-century at the top-order.

Chasing a mammoth total, Dedvutt Padikkal got Virat Kohli & Co off to a flying start. In-form Glenn Maxwell also got off with a couple of boundaries but Ravindra Jadeja was too hot to handle for him. The left-armer got to turn on this spin-friendly pitch and knocked the leg stump out. AB de Villiers was completely bamboozled by Jadeja’s spin to put CSK right on top. Jadeja fired a bullet throw too to round off his contributions in all aspects of the game to hand Royal Challengers Bangalore their first defeat of the season.

Virat Kohli fined INR 12 lakhs

Meanwhile, Bangalore woes continued as skipper Virat Kohli was handed a fine for a slow over rate. He was fined INR 12 lakhs as it was his team’s first offense under IPL’s Code of Conduct.

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 25,” IPL said in a statement.

As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mr Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh,” it added.
