On Day 1 of the second Test against India at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday, October 10, the West Indies team, captained by Roston Chase, wore black armbands to honor the late Bernard Julien, who passed away at the age of 75 on October 6, 2025.
Julien was part of West Indies’ 1975 World Cup-winning squad and played a crucial innings of 26 runs off 37 balls in the final against Australia at Lord’s. While he did not take any wickets in that final, the Trinidadian finished the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker with 10 wickets.
During his career, Julien played 24 Tests and 12 ODIs between 1973 and 1977, claiming a total of 68 wickets. Cricket West Indies (CWI) released a statement commemorating his contributions to the game.
“The West Indies players are wearing black armbands on day 1 as a tribute to former player Bernard Julien who passed away last week. Julien was a member of the 1975 World Cup winning team.”

West Indies Adjust Lineup Ahead Of India’s Toss Win In Delhi
Team India captain Shubman Gill won his first toss as Test skipper and chose to bat first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday, October 10. The home side retained the same lineup, while West Indies made two changes. Brandon King and Johann Layne were dropped in favor of Anderson Phillip and Tevlin Imlach, who is appearing in his third Test since making his debut earlier this year.
In the opening Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India dominated the visitors, winning by an innings and 140 runs inside three days. KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja all scored centuries, helping India declare at 448/5 after bowling West Indies out for 162 in the first innings.
The tourists managed only 146 in their second innings, suffering a heavy defeat. A win in Delhi would mark West Indies’ first Test victory over India since 2002.
