[WATCH]- Young Wicket-Keeper Pays Tribute To MS Dhoni During Madurai Stadium Inauguration

Former India captain MS Dhoni was greeted with an enthusiastic reception as he arrived in Madurai to inaugurate the city’s newly built cricket stadium. During a practice session on the pitch, a young wicketkeeper paid tribute by touching Dhoni’s feet, a moment that quickly went viral on social media.

Fans at the airport also went wild as the 44-year-old Ranchi-born cricketer exited, with a strong police presence ensuring his safety. Dhoni, dressed casually in a black t-shirt, jeans, and glasses, received a similarly grand welcome upon entering the stadium. The newly constructed cricket stadium in Madurai has been named Velammal Cricket Stadium. As reported by The Times of India, the project was a collaboration between the Velammal Education Trust and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).

The stadium currently accommodates 73,000 spectators, with plans to expand capacity by an additional 20,000 in the future. In the coming months, it is expected to host domestic competitions, including the Ranji Trophy and the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).

MS Dhoni Announced International Retirement In August 2020

Legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020. Over his illustrious career with Team India from 2004 to 2019, he played 98 T20Is, 90 Tests, and 350 ODIs, leading the team to victories in the 50-over World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy.

Despite retiring from international cricket, Dhoni continues to shine in the IPL, where he holds multiple records. He is the most-capped player and has led the most matches in the tournament. Alongside Rohit Sharma, he is also the joint-most successful captain in IPL history, guiding Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five title wins.
