Punjab Kings (PBKS) head coach Ricky Ponting, along with other members of the team management, recently took part in a puja ahead of IPL 2025. This marks Ponting’s first season as PBKS head coach, following his seven-year tenure with Delhi Capitals (DC) from 2018 to 2024.
After parting ways with DC, Ricky Ponting joined PBKS post-IPL 2024 and played a key role in assembling a strong squad during the mega auction. The franchise made a significant investment of ₹26.75 crores to acquire Shreyas Iyer, naming him the team’s new captain.
PBKS also made substantial bids for key players like Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, and several Australian cricketers to bolster their squad for the upcoming season. Ahead of IPL 2025, the PBKS team was seen performing a puja, seeking blessings for a successful campaign.

The Man Who Pushed Sharad Pawar and Abused Srinath Now Performs Puja
1. 2006 Champions Trophy:
During the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy final presentation ceremony, the Australian team, led by Ricky Ponting, sparked controversy for their treatment of then BCCI president Sharad Pawar. After defeating West Indies in the final, the Australian players, in a rush to celebrate, gestured for Pawar to hand over the trophy quickly.
As he moved aside, Damien Martyn nudged him off the stage, an action that was perceived as disrespectful. The incident drew criticism from Indian fans and officials, who felt that the Australian team had shown a lack of courtesy toward a senior Indian administrator.
2. Exchange with Javagal Srinath:
During the 1999 Test series between India and Australia, Ricky Ponting had a heated exchange with Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath. In the Melbourne Test, Srinath bowled a sharp bouncer that struck Ponting on the helmet, rattling the Australian batter.
Annoyed after being hit, Ponting allegedly used abusive words toward Srinath, which was caught on camera and talked about a lot. However, Srinath stayed calm and kept bowling. The incident showed the intense competition between India and Australia at that time, with Ponting known for his aggressive behavior on the field.
