Ricky Ponting and the rest of the Delhi Capitals team got a pleasant surprise when Shreyas Iyer connected with them through video call. Just before the IPL season, DC suffered a big blow when their regular skipper Iyer was ruled out of the entire tournament due to a shoulder injury. Recently he underwent successful surgery and shared the good news with all his fans on social media.
Ricky Ponting Talks With Shreyas Iyer Via Video Call
Ahead of the opening match of Delhi Capitals against Chennai Super Kings, Iyer decided to wish his entire team via virtual call. Iyer interacted with Marcus Stoinis, Ajinkya Rahane and the head coach Ricky Ponting who was delighted to speak to him. The partnership between Ponting and Iyer at DC has changed the fortunes of the franchise in the last 3 years.
As soon as Ponting saw Iyer he immediately asked him to join their team as a 12th man. He jokingly added that he could complete a 7 day quarantine period and be with the team during the IPL season.
“Missing you, it doesn’t feel the same. Come and join us, it’s just 7 days (quarantine). It will go fast, trust me. Come on, we need a 12th man. We need someone to run the drinks for us,” Ponting said in a video shared by DC.
Meanwhile, DC certainly made Iyer proud with their complete performance against CSK in Mumbai. Under the leadership of Rishabh Pant DC dominated CSK and won their season opener of IPL 2021. The star of the show was their opening partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw who shared a partnership of over 100 and completely took the match away from CSK.
