The Record-Breaking Moment
Rishabh Pant crossed MS Dhoni’s record for the most Test runs by an Indian wicketkeeper against England during the first innings at Lord’s. Needing 35 runs to surpass Dhoni’s tally of 1,157, Pant reached the milestone with a single off Brydon Carse in the 52nd over.
In terms of numbers, Pant now has 1,158 runs from 12 Tests, while Dhoni recorded 1,157 runs across 21 matches. Pant’s quicker scoring rate and lower match count highlight a more aggressive approach and consistent contribution in fewer appearances.
Partnership with KL Rahul
Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul built a crucial partnership that helped stabilize India’s innings after early setbacks. Their stand absorbed pressure from England’s bowlers and gradually shifted the momentum. Pant’s counter-attacking approach proved effective once again. He took calculated risks and targeted gaps with precision, forcing the bowlers to adjust and disrupting England’s field placements.
Bumrah’s Fire with the Ball
Jasprit Bumrah claimed 5 wickets for 74 runs in England’s first innings, earning a place on the Lord’s Honours Board. This marked his 13th five-wicket haul in away Tests, surpassing Kapil Dev’s previous record of 12. Bumrah’s spell played a key role in limiting England’s total, preventing them from posting a score above 450, and helped India stay competitive in the match.
