India has started preparing for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, which begins on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. But the team has faced an early challenge. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant suffered an injury during a practice session. This tour is particularly important for Pant, as it marks his first time as part of the leadership group.
The Indian squad includes a mix of young talents and experienced players like Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Pant himself. However, the injury scare has raised some concerns. Pant got hit on his left hand just below the elbow while batting in the nets and was clearly in pain.
After Rishabh Pant was struck on his left arm during practice, the medical team immediately stepped in to assess the situation. Described as being in visible pain on Day 1 of Team India’s camp in Beckenham, he received on-spot treatment, which included applying an ice pack and wrapping his arm with thick tape. Pant did not resume batting and spent the remainder of the session observing from the sidelines.

Pant’s Reaction and Net Session Performance
Despite the injury, Pant gave a calm response before boarding the team bus. He walked up to a journalist and asked, “How are you, bhaiya?” When asked about his arm, he replied, “All OK.” This was later confirmed by the team doctor. Before the injury, Pant looked in fine form during his net practice at Beckenham.
He started with throwdowns from Dayanand Garani and Raghu, then faced India’s spin trio—Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, and Ravindra Jadeja. He later took on pace bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj. Pant appeared confident, attacking the spinners with slog sweeps and footwork, while he remained focused and controlled against the pacers. His ability to blend aggression and caution stood out.
Pant’s Importance in the England Series
The England-India Test series will mark the beginning of the 2025–27 World Test Championship and a new chapter for India’s Test team after the retirement of key players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Rishabh Pant is expected to play a central role in this transition. His experience in English conditions—having scored 556 runs in 17 innings with two centuries—makes him an essential player.
Overall, Pant has played 43 Tests, scoring 2,948 runs, including six centuries and 15 fifties. In his last series against Australia, he managed 255 runs across nine innings. His batting skills, leadership potential, and past performances make him vital for India’s chances in this challenging series.
