Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant is set to make his comeback to the sport in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 season. He has recovered from the horrific car accident and will be representing the Delhi Capitals franchise in the tournament. The Delhi Capitals will kick off their campaign in the Indian Premier League 2024 on Saturday, March 23 against Punjab Kings in Chandigarh.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah expressed that Rishabh Pant will soon be given a nod to resume playing competitive cricket by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Pant has begun training for his comeback and is also practising in the nets. The wicket-keeper batter has scored 2838 runs at a strike rate of 147.97, including a century.

“Pant is doing well and he is batting and is also keeping. In the near future we (BCCI) will declare him fit,” said Jay Shah.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah further added that a left-handed batter is a huge asset for the Indian team with the T20 World Cup 2024 in sight. The mega-event is set to take place later this year after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League. Jay Shah also stated that the door is open for Pant’s selection in the WC team.

“If he can play the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us,” said Jay Shah.

“The door is open for him. Right now he has begun to keep so we are waiting. Our team is accessing his fitness,” he added.

Rishabh Pant has played 66 T20Is for India, scoring 987 runs at an average of 22.43 and a strike rate of 126.37. He has three fifties to his name.
