Rishabh Pant Ruled Out Of Asia Cup 2025 – Reports

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to take place from September 9 to 28 in the UAE. The dynamic left-hander suffered a toe fracture during the fourth Test match against England at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Despite the injury, Pant showed great determination by continuing to bat and notching up a half-century. However, subsequent scans confirmed the seriousness of the injury, ruling him out of action for several weeks.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team confirmed that Pant’s injury would need about six weeks to heal. Although the nature of the fracture does not require surgery, the recovery period effectively eliminates his chances of participating in the Asia Cup. This comes as a blow to India’s plans, especially with a marquee event like the Asia Cup, which serves as a key tournament in preparation for future ICC events.

Doubt Over West Indies Test Series Participation

In addition to missing the Asia Cup, Pant is also unlikely to recover in time for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, scheduled to begin on October 2 and conclude on October 14 in India. The timeline for his recovery makes his inclusion highly uncertain, though an official decision will be taken closer to the date depending on his rehabilitation progress.

India had been relying on Pant’s aggressive middle-order presence, especially in the longest format of the game. His absence will force the team management to explore alternative wicketkeeping options, with players like KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan likely being considered. Pant has been a key figure in India’s Test setup, and missing another red-ball series only adds to the challenges he has faced since his return to cricket.

A Setback in His Comeback Journey

Pant’s latest injury comes just as he was finding rhythm after a long rehabilitation from a major car accident in late 2022. His return to international cricket had sparked excitement among fans and experts, especially with his recent performances hinting at a strong comeback. This new setback, though less severe, is still a roadblock in his efforts to re-establish himself in all three formats.

While the injury does not require surgical intervention, the mandatory rest and healing period will limit his match practice and physical conditioning. The Indian team and fans alike will be hoping for his speedy recovery as he remains one of the most exciting talents in modern cricket.
